Mixed Martial Arts is anything effective. A glorified term for freestyle. No Brazilian jujitsu is not the only effective grappling. I’ve beaten several BJJ guys and I’m a Judo based fighter. Catch wrestling, Sambo, and several others focus on fighting on the ground. Honestly man I got tired of mma. I think it’s gay. I got tired of having some sweaty guy laying on top of me.
BJJ will teach you how to defend yourself really well, you wear a gi and aren’t half naked. It is EASY as hell to adapt to fighting, you will probably have more fun and not get hurt as often. I kind of like my face the way it is too. Judo is fine as well and that’s all I did mostly. It relies on throws and ground work.
Most MMA fighters do wrestling, BJJ, and kickboxing but it includes all forms. I would stick with BJJ if I were you.

Saying that MMA is basically BJJ with striking added is about as accurate as saying that MMA is kickboxing with grappling added. Neither is really accurate. Your striking changes because you have to worry about getting taken down, and your grappling changes because you have to worry about getting punched in the face. MMA is a hybrid of the two (grappling and striking). You use strikes to set up your grappling, and grappling to counter striking.
I’d recommend starting out with BJJ, arguably the most technical component of MMA. Once you’re good at that, after a year or so, look to add in the other elements of MMA.

Well it all depends on what you want to do…. as you’ve been told MMA is a little of every thing, but if you wish to be proficient and receive a belt ranking then i would suggest Jiu jitsu . good luck. write again soon.

    MMA is mixed martial arts.
As in a striking technique and a grappling technique.
For example– Boxing and Judo, Muay Thai and BJJ, Kickboxing and Wrestling, etc.

that someone who told you is absolutely right. MMA stand for mixed martial arts, it is essentially the best bits of most mainstream martial arts put together, choose MMA, and you will learn bjj through it.
