first you start off slow and soft to get the mechanics right. later on, the wing chun wooden dummy is used to test your strength AND your speed, it hardens nur arms and your hands, your stance and your footwork get better.. it’s a dummy, you do not hit dummies soft, you hit them how you would hit a real opponent
this wooden dummy is not rooted, it’s set on a shined floor, so it would move if they weren’t it for him, pressed against the stairs. imagine punching an unsupported makiwara. he’d be wasting his time. it looks like he’s doing a lot more than he was with regard to power.
