China vs. Japan, who could win?

If a Chinese Kung Fu master armed with a Jian (Chinese sword) fought a Japanese Karate master armed with a Katana, who would win? Please explain the reasoning for your answer.

Most likely China. The history books are a little gray on the details, but most of Japans culture was “Borrowed” from China, including Karate. I would have to guess that the inventors of Karate should be better at it.

Styles and ethnicity don’t win fights….

    Individual fighters win fights….

If you took 10 Chinese Masters, and 10 Japanese Masters, the style isnt going to determine the outcome, the individual’s skill will be the deciding factor.

    Hi there

It is very hard to say as the arts would have looked very different from what they are today.

But like someone else has mentioned i would put my money on the guy with the most combat experience.

    Best wishes

Styles do not determine the outcome of a battle – spirit, strength of body and mind, and resolve determine that. Style of martial art is not as important as the resolve of the individual using it.

Japan wins every time. They make better cars.

Probably the Kung Fu master. Some forms of Kung Fu studied/studies weaponry. It’s a pretty fair bet that said Kung Fu master knows what he’s doing.

Karate, on the other hand, does not include sword fighting. So, basing my opinion on the info you’ve given, I say Kung Fu master.

Judge the fighter not the art.

    Karate doesn’t include sword fighting.
So you’re basically saying a guy who has no experience with swords holding a Katana, vs a guy who mastered sword technique using Jian. This is probably one of the most pathetic comparison.
When people uses Katana, most people would try and finish their opponent with one strike. Believe it or not, there’s a sword master that can cut through another Katana which is much harder and dense than Chinese sword, and then cuts something that’s just as hard as a human’s bone right in half.
